Uninsulated or poorly insulated air vents and plenums act as significant thermal bridges. When warm, humid ambient air comes into contact with the exterior of uninsulated cold air supply ducts, surface temperature drops below the dew point, causing immediate condensation. This "sweating" leads to structural damage, ceiling degradation, and hazardous mold growth (like Aspergillus).
Using elastomeric closed-cell NBR/PVC foam insulation solves this problem at the molecular level. With a closed-cell rate exceeding 98%, the material forms an integrated vapor barrier. Unlike open-cell fibrous products, rubber foam restricts water vapor migration and maintains its thermal conductivity (λ ≤ 0.034 W/m·K at 0°C) throughout its entire 15-year typical operational life.
