Classifying a product under Class 1 requires that the total flame spread during the initial 1.5 minutes and the final 10 minutes of exposure stays within strictly defined physical parameters (typically not exceeding a 165mm flame travel distance under the standard's radiometer array).

Kingflex BS 476 Part 7 Class 1 elastomeric foam relies on a sophisticated blend of Nitrile Butadiene Rubber (NBR) and Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) compounded with high-efficiency hydrated mineral flame retardants like Alumina Trihydrate (ATH) and proprietary halogenated systems. Under flame exposure, the ATH undergoes endothermic decomposition, releasing water vapor, cooling the substrate surface, and producing a protective char barrier that limits flame spread.
With a closed-cell structural density exceeding 98%, our elastomer structures are virtually impermeable to moisture. In traditional open-cell or fibrous insulation materials, moisture ingress rapidly degrades thermal conductivity ($\lambda$). Our closed-cell structure operates as a built-in water vapor barrier, maintaining a stable thermal conductivity coefficient ($\lambda \le 0.034$ W/m·K at 0°C) over a decade-long operating lifespan.
